Emotron Softstarter solution improves control and reduces costs for Adani Gas Ltd

Adani Gas Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd, develops natural gas distribution projects across India for customers in the industrial, commercial, domestic and transport sectors. Natural gas is a convenient, reliable and environmentally friendly fuel that allows consumers to enjoy a high level of safety and economic efficiency.

The company has set up city gas distribution networks in Ahmedabad and Vadodara (Gujarat), Faridabad (Haryana) and Khurja (Uttar Pradesh).  In addition, the contract for developing city gas distribution for Allahabad and Chandigarh has been awarded to a consortium of Adani Gas Ltd and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.

Gas pressure hard to maintain

The company was previously using a conventional system with a star delta starter that imposed a high starting current on the system. It was difficult to maintain the required gas pressure, and the manual on/off control was labour-intensive.

Emotron Softstarter solution

CG Drives & Automation suggested an Emotron MSF 250 kW Softstarter solution, along with a remote on/off facility. This would enable a smooth start/stop for the compressor and reduce the current kick and mechanical stress on the system, leading to lower running costs.

This new solution has now been installed and is delivering the expected benefits. In addition, the remote on/off facility helps the company maintain a pressure of 200 bar (lower side) and 250 bar (higher side) through a Dresser-Rand compressor.

The on/off control command originates conveniently from the Adani gas substation. Manual intervention has been eliminated, saving labour costs. The system has been working satisfactorily for seven years.
